Principal & Elementary Coordinator : Dora Marques

Mrs. Dora Marques graduated from Multnomah School of the Bible with a dual degree in Biblical Studies and Christian Leadership. She then attended Sacramento State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies, followed with graduate studies at Ashland State University. Mrs. Marques has spent her entire educational career with Victory Christian School. Mrs. Marques taught Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and fourth grade prior to becoming an elementary principal. She started with Victory over 40 years ago and has become an invaluable resource for many people. There are not many positions that Mrs. Marques has not filled or assisted in recruiting the many great teachers that Victory has had. Mrs. Marques is equipped to lead prospective parents into a full understanding of what Victory is about. She shares the passion for children to come to know and love the Lord Jesus Christ. Mrs. Marques loves people and shares the burden for parents to raise godly boys and girls. In the past she has been very active as Dean of Girls at the Sacramento Bible Institute, Children’s Director and Children’s Church Director at Carmichael Bible Church and is now involved in the children’s ministry at Cypress Avenue Baptist Church.

Kindergarten : Mrs. O'Day

Mrs. O'Day has been at Victory for over 20 years. She was the Pre-Kindergarten teacher for 16 of those years. Two years were spent co-teaching second grade at the Fair Oaks campus. In 2001, she was “promoted” to kindergarten. Mrs. O'Day enjoys learning with her students.

She and her husband, Ed, have four children who all graduated from VCS. Several of their grandchildren are now students at the Carmichael campus.

Mrs. O'Day has a rich background in early childhood education. She has been trained with the Gesell Developmental Institute, which specializes in developmental readiness for starting school. Mrs. O'Day has been involved with the “Math Their Way” program as well as AIMS Science. Both these programs are very “hands-on” and enrich our program.

Kindergarten : Mrs. Pratt

Mrs. Pratt graduated from the University of California at Davis with a major in Child Development. She began teaching kindergarten at VCS in 1979 and hasn't stopped! She really loves teaching those kindergarteners! Her husband teaches High School and Junior High at Victory Christian School. They attend Sunrise Community Church and she enjoys working in the library. Mrs. Pratt is well known and respected for her desire to see her kindergartners grow in spiritual truth. She models this Christian walk in a very clear way to these precious little ones. Proverbs 22:6 – Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old he will not depart from it.

First Grade : Mrs. Renwanz

Mrs. Renwanz has been at VCS since 1977 when her oldest daughter entered kindergarten. She began volunteering in the second grade class, where she stayed for five years. During that time she began to substitute on both the elementary and high school level. In 1983, VCS hired its first paid aide. Mrs. Renwanz filled that position helping in first grade reading. She continued to volunteer and to substitute. In 1989, she co-taught first grade. Then in 1990 she began teaching first grade full time. Born and raised in Sacramento, Mrs. Renwanz received her BA and her teaching credential from Chico State College. She met her husband while there. Their three children are all graduates of VCS. Mrs. Renwanz enjoys each new class of first graders. She loves to see them grow from tentative beginning readers to excited experienced readers. She is very soft hearted and loves to make first grade special for her students.

Second Grade : Mrs. Rothery

After graduating from California State University, Sacramento with a BS degree in Business Administration, Mrs. Rothery worked as a meeting planner and instructional aide. She then returned to school and received a K-6th grade multiple subjects teaching credential from National University, and an MA in Education from CSUS. Mrs. Rothery began working as a parent volunteer at Victory. In 1999, she began substituting at the elementary level, and four years later became a part-time aide and a creative writing teacher. Although she has previous teaching experience, this is her first year teaching second grade at Victory. Mrs. Rothery has been married to her husband, Jim, for over 20 years. They have two daughters who attend Victory. Mrs. Rothery is excited to be teaching second grade again. She loves being at Victory where she can teach about God and the Bible.

Third Grade : Mrs. Tillman

Mrs. Tillman has been involved at Victory for many years, first as a parent volunteer, then as a full-time aide and creative writing teacher, and most recently as the third grade teacher. She attended LeTourneau College, Western Bible College, and graduated from Colorado State University with a B.S. in Education and Food Science and Nutrition. She taught in public schools and then worked in food service management where she met and married her husband, Dr. James Tillman. Jim has pastured for many years and is a retired National Guard chaplain. They have a son who graduated from Victory, and a daughter currently attending VCS. “I thoroughly love teaching third grade. I count it a privilege to help children learn about God's Word, and begin to discover that Gold has a special plan for each of them.” A verse Mrs. Tillman uses to encourage the children is Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans that I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.”

Fourth Grade : Miss Buckner

Miss Buckner received her B.A. from a Christian college in Colorado. Classes at CSUS completed her requirements for a California Teaching Credential, which she has maintained through the years.

Miss Buckner has been teaching at VCS since 1975. During the years she taught second grade, worked in administration, and presently teaches fourth grade. Working with impressionable, enthusiastic, fourth graders seems to be her favorite role.

In 1992, Miss Buckner took a leave of absence to travel to West Africa. There she taught a fifth grade class at a boarding school for missionary children. God used that experience to broaden her boundaries and to strengthen her faith.

One of Miss Buckner's greatest joys is to see former students continuing in their wok with the Lord. She has had the pleasure of teaching several “second generation” students.

Her favorite verse is Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart: and lean not unto thing own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Fifth Grade : Mrs. Hanson

Mrs. Hanson has taught school in both California and Indiana. She attended college in Indiana where she earned her B.S. degree in education. She has done graduate work at Purdue University and CSUS.

Mrs. Hanson had taught at local Christian schools before coming to Victory to teach fifth grade. She has had experience in teaching Grades kindergarten through third, but has discovered that fifth grade is most enjoyable. She takes pleasure in finding creative ways of helping her students learn, especially those students who need encouragement. She particularly loves teaching history and science.

A few classroom goals that Mrs. Hanson has each year is to talk to every student individually about their personal relationship with Christ and that they in turn can tell others about God's wonderful gift of salvation. Her favorite Bible verse is Jeremiah 33:3, “Call unto me and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”

Sixth Grade : Mrs. Tumlinson

Mrs. Tumlinson received her B.A. at California Baptist College in Riverside, California. She taught eleven years at a Christian school in southern California where she was the department supervisor for first through third grades and later for first through sixth grades before moving to Carmichael. Prior to coming to Victory, she taught one year at another local Christian school. She has been at Victory since 1990. One of Mrs. Tumlinson's main objectives is to prepare the sixth graders for junior high. The methods she uses and the skills she teaches throughout the curriculum enable her students to make a smooth transition into the junior high program. Her main goal is to encourage her students to have a relationship with God by knowing Him and becoming more like Him as they survey the New Testament teachings throughout the year.

Music : Mrs. Conli

Mrs. Conli has over 15 years of teaching experience and has also led children's choirs for many years. She received her B.A. from the University of California at Davis. She teaches elementary music at both the Carmichael and the Fair Oaks campuses.

Mrs. Conli feels privileged to help her students enjoy God through His gift of music and to be able to sing praises to Him all day long! She loves to encourage her students to develop and use the talents that God has given them. Join us for fun in Music as we “Come before Him with joyful singing”! (Psalm 100:2)

P.E. : Mrs. Huffman

Mrs. Huffman began teaching at Victory in 1978, where she taught K-12 P.E. A graduate of CSU Sacramento, she taught PE for seven years at VCS then went back to Sacramento State to coach the women's basketball team for 15 years. She resigned the coaching position in 2000 and took over as travel coordinator for the athletic department. In 2004 she retired from CSUS, enabling her to return to Victory and teach K-6th grade PE at the Carmichael campus.

Physical Education offers such an opportunity to prepare young people for the future. Learning to understand the importance of fitness, nutrition and, most of all, having Christ-like attitudes in working with each other are some of Mrs. Huffman's goals for the students. Sue is married and has three children. Her husband, John, is the principal of Junior High and High School. This fall, Mrs. Huffman will begin coaching junior high girl’s basketball with her daughter, Katelyn.
